Torridon Trip: Day 7 (2nd Jan)

semi-overcast 10 °C

We had a lovely lie in and a cooked breakfast in the cottage.
We drove to the outskirts of Torridon and did a 2 mile walk with Bobby. The predicted rain never arrived and we enjoyed a peaceful walk around a sea loch and then a view over the water to Torridon.
After the walk we treated ourselves to a very tasty coffee and a delicious slice of homemade carrot cake at the Torridon Café.
We drove back to the cottage and made a final macaroni cheese dinner accompanied of course by some red wine!
We watched 'The Water Diviner' film before going to bed. The final day of the most wonderful week in Scotland.

Torridon Trip: Day 6 (1st Jan)

overcast 10 °C

We had a nice lie in and then treated ourselves to a cooked breakfast.
At 11am we headed out to do a walk on the Kinlochdamph estate. As we headed out we bumped into some neighbours who were going out hunting (in full camouflage!). We changed our route out of safety and enjoyed a wonderful extended 5 mile walk around the Estate in mild conditions.
Once back at the cottage we opened a bottle of red wine and cooked a delicious truffle pasta dish.
We watched 'The Huntsman' film on TV and relaxed by the fire.

Torridon Trip: Day 5 (31st Dec)

semi-overcast 11 °C

We had breakfast at the cottage and then drove to nearby Shieldaig. The 5km Shieldaig peninsula walk turned out to be stunning - both in terms of scenery and weather. The walk took in both rugged mountain scenery and the beautiful coastline all in sunshine and blue sky.
Afterwards we went for lunch to the Shieldaig Bar for our most average lunch of the week. Grant had langoustine scampi which was loaded with batter and I had some rather bland crab fishcakes.
Afterwards we took a trip to the Torridon Store & Café to stock up on some red wine.
We had a wonderful evening drinking champagne, eating cheese and biscuits, watching a film (The Way Way Back) and listening to music. The perfect start to the year.

Torridon Trip: Day 4 (30th Dec)

overcast 10 °C

We had a lovely lie in and then a super cooked breakfast of egg muffins at the cottage.
We decided to do a walk around the Kinlochdamph Estate and not venture out in the car.
We did a 4.5 mile walk around the estate in sometimes rainy conditions but that never detracted from the beauty of the surrounding area right on our doorstep.
We got back after 3pm and prepared a curry.
We watched some films and TV and had some cheese and dips later on. We fell asleep in front of the log burning stove!

Torridon Trip: Day 3 (29th Dec)

sunny 11 °C

After breakfast we ventured out towards Plockton. It was a colder day than yesterday but with glimpses of sunshine and blue sky. We stopped at a tiny hamlet called Achmore and did a 5km walk which took in views of the sea loch and railway. Again, the scenery was stunning.
We drove into Plockton and had a delicious 2 course lunch at the Plockton Shores restaurant. Our fish main courses were beautifully cooked.
After lunch we drove to Kyle of Lochalsh and took the bridge over to Skye. As light was fading we didn't have a lot of time but we also stocked up on some goodies at the well stocked Co-op supermarket.
Our dinner at the cottage included a selection of cheeses and smoked salmon with red wine. Later on the predicted storm Frank arrived and we heard the high wind and rain from the comfort of our cosy cottage.
