Day 9: 30th Oct

sunny 30 °C

We got up early to a cloudy start which suited us as we made an early morning hike to our favourite spot, Colombier beach. We sat on the beach and took shelter when a passing rain cloud appeared. After that the sun emerged and never disappeared for the rest of the day. We had our best snorkelling trip of the holiday and saw some sharks, stingrays, turtles...all with great visibility.
Afterwards we sat on the beach and relaxed for a while.
On our way back to the villa we stopped at the boulangerie in Colombier for a baguette, croissant amande and an onion quiche. We prepared a lunch for salad followed by the croissant and coffee. In the afternoon we sat by the pool and chilled.
For our final dinner we decided to stay at our wonderful villa. We finished off some food in the fridge and our delightful 'whispering angel' rose wine. Some final star gazing on the roof terrace with a vanilla rum seemed a fitting goodbye to our wonderful villa.

Day 8: 29th Oct

sunny 30 °C

After breakfast we took a trip to the shopping mall at St. Jean. We bought some gifts from the lovely french pharmacy. There were plenty of sales in the little boutiques and in one particular clothing boutique the shop owner had an adorable couple of dogs. She then revealed a box at the back of the shop that contained a couple of 6 week old puppies....beyond cute! We played with them for a while and I could have stayed in that shop all day. I bought a couple of items and we reluctantly left.
We stopped at the bakery and picked up some goodies for lunch and then we drove back to the villa. When we arrived at the villa we met our charming maid Anna and we had a nice conversation with her for about half an hour.
After lunch we drove to Gustavia and met Rosita in le creperie for an hour. We drove back to the villa and soaked up the last of the day's sunshine. After feeding our tortoise family, we headed upstairs to the roof terrace to watch the beautiful sunset.
Our dinner was at home and we cooked the remaining mahi mahi fillets with some savoury rice. We lit some candles and sat outside with a bottle of wine....delicious!

Day 7: 28th Oct

sunny 29 °C

We got up incredibly early and at 6am drove to the early morning fishermen selling their catch in Gustavia. We bought some mahi mahi which looked so fresh. We stopped at Choisy boulangerie in Gustavia and bought a croissant which turned out to be very disappointing. After breakfast, we drove to Saline beach and did some sunbathing and snorkelling. We saw a fairly large shark and some good shoals of fish. Our lunch, was at neighbouring le Grain de Sel and that was a delicious lunch. We both had salad options (prawn and tuna) which were full of flavour.
After lunch we headed back to the villa and relaxed all afternoon. Our dinner was the wonderful fish from the market which was served with creamy mashed potatoes and green beans. After dinner we shared a vanilla rum and our roof terrace.

Day 6: 27th Oct

sunny 30 °C

We got up early and had a light breakfast. We drove to St. Jean and left our beach towels and a change of clothes on the beach. We walked to neighbouring Lorient and then snorkelled back to the beach at St. Jean which felt like a very long distance! We had a quick stop at the supermarket in Lorient and then drove back to the villa for lunch.
The weather was lovely so we sat outside and then watched the sun set from the roof terrace.
For dinner we drove into Gustavia and had dinner at le Carre in the small shopping complex. We had visited there previously and based on our previous visit, we were very happy to be returning. Sadly the owners and menu had changed since our last visit and despite some good cocktails, our food was disappointing. We did some evening window shopping around the shops in Gustavia. Once more we had a couple of drinks back at the villa.

Day 5: 26th Oct

semi-overcast 30 °C

After a long, lingering breakfast looking out towards St. Jean we headed out to Gustavia and did some shopping. We had a browse around the boutiques and then had a quick stop in the supermarket. Lunch was at one of our favourite spots on the island, les Bananiers. As usual, the food and drinks did not disappoint. Grant opted for the pasta plat du jour and I had the tuna tartare. Both dishes were delicious and the expresso that followed, rounded off a delicious meal.
After lunch we headed back to the villa and relaxed around the pool. Towards sunset we sat on the roof terrace and watched the comings and goings in Gustavia.
We decided to have dinner at the villa and we prepared salad, dips and bread.
